Sunset at Silver Sands beach. We didn’t get a classic red and orange sunset but the clouds were spectacular and the sky was blue and in Connecticut we count that as a win!

When the world moves too fast and you lose yourself in the chaos, introduce yourself to each color of the sunset. ~ Christy Ann Martine
I ask all my clients to create a mood board on Pinterest to define their dream shoot. When I saw Natalie’s Pinterest board I knew I wanted to try out this new location I found. During a sunset session on the beach I try to capture every ray of light the sun gives off. Direct sun on the face (with no light modifiers), back lit with my reflector bouncing light back in, strobes to capture the amazing colors in the sky and lastly I bring out my light wands for a subtle glow just after the sun sets below the ocean. I love that you can capture the mood of the evening and every color that the sunset brings; from golden rays, haze and deep rich warm tones, and lastly cool blues.

Our sunset shoot was a fun travel session for a few of my senior influencers. It was at a State Park in Louisiana called Fountainbleu State Park. I had been several years ago and the landscape of beach, lake and native Louisiana cypress trees is truly stunning. So we traveled for a fun day shoot and got some great images!

“Every sunset brings the promise of a new dawn.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Vibrant sunsets don’t happen very often in Nevada, because moisture in the air to capture & diffuse the light is necessary. Every once in a while, though, Nevadans do get a fantastic sunset!
Here are some tips to predict if you will get a vibrant sunset:
1. mid to high-level clouds
2. 30-70% cloud coverage
3. clean air in the lower atmosphere (like after a rain cleans the air)
4. lower humidity
5. calm winds
